We just bought a house. True story.
Did you see that post I made two months ago about falling in love with a house then losing the bid? Yes, that house. Whaaat? We still can’t really believe it ourselves…
About a year ago we saw this house for sale and we just loved it. From that point on, any other house we looked at (online) got compared to this one. But it was priced high and we weren’t actually ready to buy yet.
Eventually the house came off the market. We assumed it hold sold. In May of this year after discovering it hadn’t sold but still wasn’t listed, we wrote a letter to the homeowners to see if they were interested in selling. We waited. No reply.
One evening in June, Jon walks into the kitchen with a funny look on his face and showed me the ipad… The house was listed again! As a foreclosure. Bids were being accepted.
The next day we saw the house. Even better in person. Then commenced the craziness: Preapproval. An ident theft scare. Bid placed. Bid lost. A call that the winners pulled out. Signed contract. Plumbing concerns. Inspection. Testing this. Inspecting that. Holding our breath. Praying and trusting that if God had this for us it would work out. If it wasn’t right for us, praying it wouldn’t!
Waiting.
Waiting.
Then a call last Monday that we could close on Friday. Pending HUD’s approval.
Waiting.
Waiting.
Friday we went to the closing not knowing if the approval had come through! But when we got there were found or it had just that morning.
Sign. Sign and date. Initial. Sign sign sign. Hand over a check. Shake hands. Done.
(Ok so there was a lot more than that that went into it, but that’s the gist of it.)
So here we are. Two mk’s who have moved around our whole lives, after 5 moves in our almost 7 years of marriage, settling into our own home.
We feel so undeserving. But we are choosing to see it as the incredible gift from God that it is. Praying that our home will bless many others over the years ahead.
Oh, and remember that letter we wrote to the homeowners? It was waiting in the mailbox for us.
(Enjoying a picnic lunch in our new home right after closing.)
